This Chevrolet Camaro Would Double As An Excellent Snowplow

The Chevrolet Camaro may no longer be selling in the numbers it once was, but it is still a very well-rounded performance car. It is also a very popular car to customize but the owner of this particular example has perhaps gone a little overboard with its custom features.

This photo was recently shared to the Shitty_Car_Mods section of Reddit after the car was spotted somewhere in North America. It is painted in a shade of red but the owner decided to paint the hood and roof black. However, it’s not these parts that drew our attention.

For starters, this Camaro features hugely flared front and rear wheel arches that sit out well beyond the edges of the wheels. Were the wheels to fill these arches, they wouldn’t look so bad but they don’t even come close. A truly bizarre front splitter has then been affixed to the front of the Camaro which protrudes out at least a foot from the front bumper.

In fact, the splitter is so massive that it features additional supports securing it to the front of the muscle car. The size of it even led the original poster to suggest that it looks more like a snowplow than it does a Chevy Camaro – and we’re inclined to agree.

Rounding thins up is a rear wing that, obviously, is anything but subtle. To our eyes, it all looks way OTT, but what do you make of this rather unusually modified Camaro?

One Car Dealership Tried Remote Delivery Services For 7 Years, Didn’t Work Out As Expected

Remote services are all the rage these days following the first pandemic wave in early 2020 that forced many business, including dealerships, to close their doors to the public. We’ve come a long way since then, but many car dealers are still bucking the trend of offering remote delivery.

Not everyone is sold on the practice though, including Alderman’s Chevrolet-Buick-GMC in Rutland, Vermont, which had experimented with delivering their vehicles all over New England free of charge for seven years, from 2011 through 2018 before ending the service for good. Even during the pandemic lockdown, the dealership decided to go against the prevailing wisdom and continue serving customers locally exclusively with in-story delivery.

What happened?

The decision to end remote services, the practice of delivering vehicles to buyers from hither and yon for free, was not reached easily. Intended as a way to improve customer service, the offer was taken up by many buyers, but the dealership found itself dedicating employees to making deliveries and retaining fewer and fewer customers.

“What we were doing was really spreading ourselves thin, not executing as well and raising expenses,” Mark Alderman, general manager, told Automotive News.

It’s all comes down to returning customers

The dealership found that up to 30 percent of the 1,100 new and used vehicles it sold annually were delivered across state lines, to people for whom it would not make sense to return for service. It also found that finance and insurance revenue was hurting as a result of the free deliveries.

“We were doing it because we wanted to sell more cars,” Alderman said. “When we looked back on it, there were a lot of benefits to the dealership and the customer experience that get lost when you ship a car.”

By 2014, the dealership reached its lowest customer retention rate of 42 percent. In 2018, Alderman decided to stop offering the service and instead mandated that each new vehicle be delivered in the dealership’s service lane, where customers could take a picture with their new car and a sign proclaiming where they got the car. The photos would then be posted to Facebook and the customers tagged.

Even through the pandemic, when low inventory meant that people from all over New England were shopping for cars anywhere they could find them, Alderman says he doesn’t regret focusing on local. Salespeople do have to make their sales online, but they’ve taken to posting videos that demonstrate vehicle features and hosting Zoom chats with customers to talk them through the purchasing process.

All of which is leading to some of the highest loyalty levels the dealership has ever seen. In 2020, 62 percent of customers were returning customers and so far in 2021, 69 percent have purchased a vehicle with Alderman before.

Dealerships “are afraid of the customer walking away,” Alderman told Autonews. “We just made a deep commitment to not try to be everything to everybody, of trying to be just really excellent in our space.”

Update: GM Shoots Down Rumor On Supercharger Option For Escalade, Tahoe And Yukon SUVs

We reached out to General Motors asking them about MT’s report on a dealer installed supercharger option for the automaker’s trio of large SUVs, with a Cadillac spokesperson shooting down the rumor as “complete speculation” without saying anything further. [Updated 2/14/2021]

– Original story follows below

Rumors about a high-performance Cadillac Escalade-V were circulating a few years ago, but that now seems unlikely as officials recently suggested the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwings would be the last petrol-powered V-Series models.

While that’s disappointing, it appears fans of high-performance SUVs won’t be entirely out of luck.

According to Motor Trend citing an inside source, GM will offer a supercharger for the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe / Suburban and GMC Yukon. Little is known about the company’s plan at this point, but it appears the supercharger will be a dealer-installed option for models equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine.

In naturally aspirated form, the engine produces 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque. It moves the SUVs with authority, but we wouldn’t exactly call them quick.

However, the supercharger could change that as the publication estimates they could increase the output to 600-625 hp (447-466 kW / 608-634 PS). That would be a significant jump and not too far off from the CT5-V Blackwing’s rating of 668 hp (498 kW / 677 PS).

There’s no word on when the supercharger could arrive or how much it will cost, but the publication noted the SUVs have a locked ECU.  This prevents tuners such as Hennessey Performance from offering their own high-performance versions and it means GM could see a boost from customers looking for more power.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV Teased Ahead Of Its Debut This Weekend

The teaser campaign for the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV continues as the company has released a new video that provides a peek inside the cabin as well as a glimpse of the exterior.

As you can see in the video, a family is taking a trip and passes three hitchhiking ghosts from Disney’s Haunted Mansion. While the family doesn’t stop, the ghosts fly into the crossover and everyone is surprisingly okay with that.

The clip isn’t very revealing, but it shows the Bolt EUV will offer two-tone perforated leather seats with contrast stitching. The image of the rearview mirror also suggests the model will have massive blind spots due to the thick rear pillars.

That isn’t much to go on, but previous teasers have shown the crossover will have a digital instrument cluster and a more traditional center stack than the standard Bolt. Chevrolet has also confirmed the Bolt EUV will be their first electric vehicle to offer the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.

The exterior is only shown briefly, but we can see a sloping roof, an angular rear beltline and slender taillights. The latter have been revealed in previous teasers and they’ll be joined by front lights that combine LED daytime running lights with sequential turn signals.

Chevrolet is keeping specifications under wraps, but the current Bolt has a 66 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 200 hp (150 kW / 203 PS). This enables the hatchback to travel up to 259 miles (417 km) on a single charge.

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt and Bolt EUV will be unveiled on February 14th, so stay tuned for full details.

Police Arrest Man After Six Hour Chase Through Southern California

Authorities have arrested a man near Los Angeles after a six-hour police chase through Southern California.

NBC Los Angeles reports that the chase started at roughly 7 p.m. on February 3 following a report of a man with a gun. Police attempted to pull the man over in a routine traffic stop but he refused to get out of the car and fled the scene.

Whereas police chases often involve high speeds, the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu drove quite slowly throughout the chase. Speaking with the local media, Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Juan Garcia said authorities did not perform a PIT maneuver on the car due to the report of him being armed.

“Our policy generally prohibits us from conducting a PIT maneuver on somebody we believe is armed because it puts us at a disadvantage when we flip that car around,” Garcia said. “Now he’s face-to-face with us, and it is pretty unsafe.”

Garcia added that in his 20 years with the department, he has never heard of another chase stretching on for six hours. It eventually came to an end near Ontario, California.

NBC Los Angeles notes that the car lost its front left tire at around the four-hour mark but not even that stopped the driver. For two more hours, he drove slowly down a handful of freeways near Los Angeles and only decided to stop when the front left wheel fell off entirely, leaving the car resting on its hub.

The man , who has two outstanding warrants for burglary, ultimately surrendered and was arrested on suspicion of felony evading.

For Six Figures, You Can Low Ride In Kobe Bryant’s Custom 1963 Chevy Impala

Many lowriders we’ve seen can’t be exactly described as tasteful, but this 1963 Chevrolet Impala owned by the late Kobe Bryant certainly is.

Listed for sale on Goldin Auctions, this Impala was brought into West Coast Customs (WCC) by Bryant’s wife Vanessa in 2006, who commissioned the car for him as a Christmas gift.

The California-based tuning shop began by disassembling the car and blasting the body to bare metal. They then gave a multi-coat paint finish in a mix of purple and royal blue that was custom blended by House of Kolor. The body received all new glass, moldings and weather stripping, while all the chrome was meticulously refinished. The car also features 13-inch 100-spoke Dayton wire wheels shod in Reliant Super Ride tires.

WCC outfitted the interior with all-new white leather upholstery studded with genuine Swarovski crystals, offset by royal blue piping and carpets to complement the exterior. A trunk-mounted stereo system features a powerful Sony amplifier in addition to multiple speakers and subwoofers. Rounding off the interior mods are a power tilt steering wheel and standalone tachometer.

Mind you, the changes made to this Impala weren’t purely aesthetic. The 5.4-liter V8 that originally came with the car was completely rebuilt with custom Edelbrock headers and billet accessories. That engine now feeds a new glasspack dual exhaust setup, and the front brakes were converted from drums to hydraulic discs.

Continuing with the mechanicals, as is the case with lowriders such as this, the suspension was completely customized with a hydraulic system featuring two Pro Hopper “Envious Touch” pumps, three Adel dumps, and front 6″ and rear 12″ cylinders. The whole system has four switches, eight batteries, and eight solenoids. Additionally, the rear end features a coilover setup and molded upper A-arms for improved ride quality.

Considering this car is nearly 60 years old, the fact that it has only 24,729 miles on the odometer is quite impressive. Right now, and with five days until the auction ends, bidding stands at $140,000, but it is expected to sell for up to $250,000.

How Does The 495 HP 2020 Corvette Fare Against A 760 HP Mustang Shelby GT500?

Whenever a performance-focused vehicle is released in the U.S, you can be assured that Hennessey Performance will get its hands on one and bump up its performance. However, before working on a recent C8 Corvette and Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that came into its shop, the tuner lined up the two to see how they compare in a straight-line.

Kicking things off is a drag race from a standing start where the Corvette has an advantage. You see, while the ‘Vette’s 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine ‘only’ churns out 495 hp with the Z51 Performance Package, it is mid-engined and has much better grip than the GT500.

Consequently, the Corvette gets off the line for quicker than the Mustang which, by the way, uses a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 with no less than 760 hp. The Chevy holds on to its lead for quite a long time and it isn’t until the C8 hits roughly 120 mph (193 km/h) that the Mustang overtakes it and storms ahead thanks to its added power.

For the second test, the two went toe-to-toe in a rolling drag race from 40 mph (64 km/h). This race favors the Mustang because it is able to put all of its power to the ground from the get-go without encountering any traction issues like it does when getting off the line.

Neither of these results are surprising but they have made us very intrigued to see how Hennessey’s twin-turbo Corvette will stack up against a GT500 when it’s been tuned and is running at full power.
